Ok not sure where my post went, but here it was:
Upon landing, instead of the usual rude airport officials/customs officers found across the globe, we were greeted by ultra-friendly Dominicans and speed through in seconds.
We are at the Sun Village / Maxim resort and everyone from the staff to even the janitor are also amazingly friendly and helpful. We have yet to come across anyone who has been in a bad mood or rude. You also don't see envy in their faces like you do in Costa Rica or Mexico.
The other thing I found shocking is no one expects a tip here or begs for one like in many other Latin countries. I tip them and they seem to be truly surprised, but very grateful.
We ate at the Maxim restaurant the first night, it was the best meal I've ever experienced. The Chef even came out to offer us free drinks and made us his special dessert, also on the house.
Better still, real estate prices here seem to still be rather low, sort of how Costa Rica was 5-7 years ago.
So far, aside from my Aces being beaten out by 8s in the World Poker Showdown, the trip has been awesome! Anyone looking into the Caribbean should definitely consider DR.
I can't wait for Ocean World on Wed, we get to swim with both Dolphins and Sharks. That or get french-kissed by a Sea Lion
