I had a feeling it was something like that, being the most plausible explanation of the box not even answering pings ...
I had a similar situation on a box were my 2 clients had no backups .. The hard drive was still usable enough to recoup the data. But it did take a few hours to reinstall everything on a new drive as well as copy the data and set permissions and ownership as they should be.
Hosthead has a good reputation , and if the tech would have clearly informed the customer, this thread would not even exist.
