LAST NIGHT ROCKED!!!! THANKS MIKE G ( incredible story inside)
If you are a true blue musician or just a fan of rock and roll then you must read this!!!
If you are sober or on drugs .....you will appreciate what I saw last night at the Music Box Theatre in Hollywood at the Henry Fond Theatre.
So Mike is my concert buddy- We both have a mutual friend in Matt Sorum the drummer for the Cult, Velvet Revolver and G&R and have been to many VR shows in the past and hung backstage with the band many times. Great guys- well except for Weiland.
Last night Mike calls me and asks me what my plans were for the evening and I told him I had to attend the SHANE'S WORLD, SMASH PICTURES, HUSH party at Cinespace at 10 and meet my boy Max from TMZ and Efren Ramirez ( Pedro from Napolean Dynamite we share the same publicist). I had to get there no later than 10:30.
Mike then tells me he has a pass for tonights special event for Music Cares and the MAP Fund " An Intimate Evening with Alice Cooper and SLASH" Featuring Camp Freddy who are basically the Cult and Guns and Roses.
So of course I jump at the chance to see this show.
We arrive at the venue at 7:00 and are whisked right in.
We have passes for both the mezzanine and the VIP area downstairs.
As I belly up to the bar to order the drink the bartender says it's a "DRY" show just juices, water, and cokes. LOL
Mike and I really weren't planning on drinking...but it was Friday night a beer would have been awesome. So I go and pick up a program for the night's events and to my shock and amazement....the show is for recovering addicts in the Music Biz. Music Cares is a recovery program for music industry people.
I look at the evening's line up and JUST ABOUT SHIT MYSELF.
The host for the evening's event was former "In Living Color" star and comedian Tommy Davidson. Who absolutely BOMBED. I couldn't believe what a poor choice he was to emcee such a star studded event....but hey we haven't gotten to that yet.
As the show opens it's the band, Blind Melon obviously not with original singer Shannon Hoon- but I guess they are still around, and although they were very mellow and didn't even play their only hit, "No Rain" they were pretty good. They played 3 songs and were turned off faster than me eating stinky pussy.
Next up after a short dedication by Anthony Keidis to Bill Timmons the founder of MAP who passed away in March- was camp Freddy-
With Chris Chaney, Donovan Leitch, Billy Morrison, and Matt Sorum
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS CHESTER PENNINGTON, WAYNE KRAMER, DUFF MCKAGAN,
STEVEN TYLER AND ROBIN ZANDER!!!!!!!
They came out and rocked to Cheap Trick's "Dream Police" with Robin Zander on vocals
and then played " Gonna Raise Hell" and sounded amazing!
Chester Bennington came out next and sang Alice Copper's " Eighteen" and was oustanding as well...
It wasn't until they brought out Slash with Steven Tyler (after giving Slash his 2 year sobriety chip with a touching and funny speech) that I absolutely went on sensory overload- Tyler and the band went into a version of " Whole Lotta love" that tore the house down....well not really.
You see in any other place this show would have had people flipping out.
Being a sober environment with industry people, no one rocked out.
No one danced, no pumped fists...it was like sitting at a Bar Mitzvah and watching Mick Jagger sing Hava Nagilia.
I couldn't believe it! Needless to say after Bernie Taupin, (Elton John's writing partner) gave a great speeech about Alice Cooper partying back in the day and getting sober, Alice took the stage and rocked with his band along with Slash- "School's Out", "Telephone is Ringing" " and "Welcome to My Nightmare".
The show was INSANE- we got to hobknob with a ton of rockstars and celebrities-
I interviewed Shauna Sand for TMZ and kinda made fun of Janie Lane from Warrant for a minute- he was a good sport.
Duff and his wife Susan are tremendous people and no one there last night had an ego at all-
I am happy to see that this program has worked for so many musicians-
It was really cool to learn about this organization.
So the show ends at 10 on the dot- we zip over to the SMASH Party and we had a blast chilling with Efren in his booth.
Dude had HOTTIES everywhere last night.
VOTE FOR PEDRO!
Big thanks to Stuart Wall, Voodoo, Megan, AIREK, and Louis for the hook up I was honered to be there....
and I apologize in advance for any inappropriate ass grabbing my friend Max may have made last night to any of you....girls or BOYS.
LOL
he was a wee bit drunk
:-))
What a night!
