i was have recently reading been reading the cosmos by carl sagan, and in later chapters he talks about the equation for the probability of lifeforms on other planets. The main deterrent for the equation is if intelligent societies can survive having nuclear power without destroying themselves, if they can, than it is very possible for ET's, if not, we are alone. Cuz it takes millions of years for intelligent life to develop. So they have to be out there now, or we are the intelligent life.
