For the record this isn't about whether or not young teens are mature enough or if they are going to have sex or not. Fact is they ARE. Period, whether some of you like it or not you're going to have to deal with it. The new law still allows for legal sex between young people within a certain age range of each other.

It's about protecting them from older perv assholes who prey on them or are in a position of authority over them who force them into sexual situations, and specifically internet predators.
