No one in their right mind would deny the pats are a formidable force in the league in the last 8 years, but it's just human nature to cheer for their misfortune in light of all the arrogant gloating that's gone on.

I may be wrong, but I think the "arrogant gloating" comes from basically the same type of people who also spend their time gloating about how much pussy they've gotten this week, how much money they make, and how good they are at SEO.
Most Pats fans in the real world weren't full of "arrogant gloating" - they were quietly worrying about whether Brady really *was* hurt (he obviously was) and whether the aging Pats defense would be able to stay on its feet for one more game (for the most part they were, until the miracle play at the end).
