I finally researched it. looks like the dutch oven was a pot with a heavy sealed lid to keep the 'heat in' and...
dutch oven has three legs, a wire bale handle, and a slightly convex, rimmed lid so that coals from the cooking fire can be placed on top as well as below. This provides more uniform internal heat and lets the inside act as an oven.
...so... the inside acts as an oven, much like under the covers, it traps you in! that's as close as i got - but the answer is finally revealed I do believe
