It all depends. For instance, GA state sales tax is 3%. However, my COUNTY sales tax is 4%. So I pay 7% when I buy something. Food is exempt from state sales tax, but not county. So when I buy food, I pay 4% sales tax. It gets really fun when you're buying something large like furniture in one county, where the sales tax may be 1% and having it delivered in another county where the sales tax may be 4%
Then there are places where there's also a city tax............
