Almost all shark attacks are either because a diver got too close and made the shark defensive (stepped on it, surprised it, etc) or the shark mistakes a person for its normal food supply. Surfers kinda resemble sea turtles from below, and alot of times divers are mistaken for seals. Usually a shark takes a bite and lets go when it figures out we dont taste like a turtle or a seal.
There are maybe 100 shark attacks a year worldwide. Your chances of being one of them are extremely slim, you have a much better chance of dying in a plane crash.
The day before these pics were taken, a 16ft great white was spotted in the same area feeding on a seal carcass. Didnt stop us from diving.
