I assume you are asking how you can tell that it didn't expire and get re-registered.
Two reasons:
1. There have been no normal domain drops for the last 20+ days, so no one could have re-registered it in the last few weeks even if it did expire.
2. When a name is re-registered, the registration date would be the date when the new owner registered it, within the last few days, not a date 4 years in the past.
Also, the expiration date is in September, which would make no sense.

That sounds pretty much right, if whoever it was that "hijacked" this domain, it would seem they just went to the domain manager inside mydomain.com and changed the details to the current whois info.
