Yep, and they need a special diet to survive, so nothing for people afraid of insects and especially mealworms.
They need a huge cage, I'd say about 20 times the size of an average bird cage.
They are sensible, they get ill fast (good luck finding a doctor), they have strange habits, they like to bite and destroy (especially if you don't give them enough attention when they want it), an ex-girlfriend of mine had one...just listen :

So, if your girlfriend has loads of spare time, loves being up at night, has money to waste and looks for something that's a good training in case you are going to have a baby later, it's the perfect pet.
I still hear them bark in my nightmares, believe me, these cute little bastards were made in hell. Once you have one, it would break your girlfriends heart to give away this little tojan horse!
