My grandmother did this twice last year with her sink. She would get a washcloth out to clean her face, put it in the sink, turn the water on, then go to the other room for something and get distracted. The washcloth would stop up the drain and then we'd be hiring a water removal place to come out the next day.
She did it about 2 months apart and the guy from the company said that you'd be surprised how many "repeat" customers he had.
