There is more than one way to build or purchase your own fluorescent lights using high CRI bulbs that don't flicker and ballasts that are reliable, but for my money the sturdiness and quality of real Kino-Flos can't be beat, especially if you do a lot of location filming. I have the same bulbs in my four-foot four bank Kinos that I have owned for three years.

If you are setting up a studio or permanent space and you need lots of lights in separate rooms it may pay off to look into other lower cost solutions like Cool Lights http://www.coolvideolights.com/
