I'm just looking to upgrade my Canon Digital Rebel XT and figured I'd take a step up to the Canon EOS 40D, but figured I'd ask all of you, the real camera experts

It's just for personal use, so I'm not sure I need to step up into anything a little more expensive OR should I ???
