NATS is a strong program that will always have issues since they are the top affiliate management solution.

I am a program owner as well as a webmaster who uses NATS and I for one do like to read about the issue(s) here, as with any program, software or company that may compromise any aspect of my business.
People may ask questions I did not think of or that result in better answers I could not get if I asked the question. So for this reason alone, I like to read about it online rather than a private ICQ convo.
It's a shame the trolls come out in force to jump on the issue, but this was a pretty large blunder that is going to be pulled back into the spotlight for some time. That's just the facts. John has done a good job answering questions so far, but I am very disappointed that such a security issue has not resulted in tracking down the guilty party. The fact that it could be an ex-employee, or current, sends a bad shiver down my spine.
I can only speak for myself, but it would be nice to one day read "We now know what happened" or "We know who did it" somewhere in regards to this issue. Everything up to this point has all been a little too vague for my comfort level, though I put trust in this not happening again and continue to use NATS.
