The curator of the museum was also interviewed on the TV show, and has some quotes in this article. He lets it go on because he believes that freedom of speech is just, well, American, and he doesn't want to deny them of that.

They don't condone it, and believe they're a bit nuts, but allow them in for their tours. As much as I dislike what they do at the lowest level, I think the museum is making the right choice too. It's not their place to get involved.

The curator himself said that he just hopes that some of the kids grow up start thinking for themselves. These people are trying to find a way to fit all science into their idea of how the world was made, which is obviously, not possible.. They sure are trying hard though.
