I try to do it every few years in my little town. It's pretty funny how differently shop owners talk to you when they think you're a tourist and then you tell them you live here

Tourism is a large part of the town's industry so even though ALL true Southerners are polite, we become overly polite so as not to make the tourists not want to come back. But secretly, we all hate the tourists, lol ;)
