That is exactly right. This is also how people die from the flu. It either leads to other complications or severe dehydration because you can't keep anything down.
As for food poisoning, if you try and stop your bodies natural reaction to it, i.e. vomiting or diarrhea, it complicates matters as well and can kill you. That is why taking anti-diarrhea medication, et. al. is a HUGE no-no when you have food poisoning. Your body is naturally trying to purge the 'bug' from you. This is why if you go to the emergency room for it, 9 times out of 10, they will not do anything for you UNLESS you show signs of dehydration. There seriously is nothing they can do for you, unless you have a parasite of some sort, other than administer fluids int he most dire cases.
