I agree. Now, there is at least one gun on the plane. That allows a new strategy for a potential group of jackers. Especially if pilots "think" they can handle the problem.
The goal should be land the damn plane asap when any issue arises. Therefore, the doors should be made inpenetrable, and the doors should close before passengers are on board, and open after they have left the plane. Very simple.
These strategies, just like "increased" airport / airplane security seem to ignore the fundamental premise of the 9/11 attack.
The terrorists followed the
rules , and were extremely successful (3/4).
And were probably able to abort other attempts without being captured...which I find more problematic, and less focused on by any intel agency.
The next attempt will follow the rules, and exploit inadequate policy in the existing security.
Probably terrorists disguised as pilots/flight crew/maintence will walk right on the damn plane, and commender the gun to use on a "group of terrorists."
We will see how long it takes for a gun mishap / drunk pilot / new exploit.
