A bunch of races make up America but I think it is stupid how people can vote for a foreign tradition to be an offical holiday when great people like g Washington and Lincoln have been put into one holiday.

I don't think that is what St Patricks Day is all about, but interpret it how you may. We are far from a sensitive group of people who needs a day to feel special about themselves. Trust me...we are not crying about equality issues. St Patricks Day is celebrated by all, and it's a day to kick back and have a great time.
It's no sillier to celebrate a foreign tradition as it is to celebrate a religious one (yes it is about a Patron Saint, but is celebrated by both Christians and Non-Christians). If you think about it, St. Patricks Day is one of the few celebrating a positive as opposed to a negative: A person's death, the death of soldiers, a resurrection, a day of thanks based on invasion, etc.
For arguments sake, the reason why this Holiday made it here to the US: Number of U.S. residents who claim Irish ancestry: 34.5 million. This number is almost nine times the population of Ireland itself (4.1 million). Irish is the nation’s second most frequently reported ancestry, trailing only those of German ancestry.
Lee... If you worry about getting to the bank or having a check clear the day after St Patricks Day, then you should step back for a moment and enjoy life on a day where most others are as well. A simple solution is to keep enough money in that account to have a check come in a day late. That solves the problem. 1 day rollover shouldn't be drastic, but if it is I can see your point.
In all fairness, if I moved to Ireland, it would be a 5 day festival and my liver would fail. I would also lose a hell of a lot of money with the exchange rate between the Euro and the Dollar. If this weren't the case however, I'd live in Ireland without a second's hesitation. It is beautiful, the people are friendly and it's everything Vegas is not.
Cheers all..I didn't mean for something fun to piss so many people off.
