Well one of the bands I always wanted to see live and that I will always miss is the surf killer rock extraordinaires Jane's Addiction, as far as they definitely broke up after their 2002 reunion it might never happen.
So I got kind of surprised when I walked into a local supermarket and found the "Three Days" DVD for sale at about 10 USD.
Over the years (I found Jane's over a local underground art magazine in the category "if you like this you will also like" plus I also read an interview with Perry Farrel and the guy seemed to be a really cool cat to me), that was like way back in 96 or so.. I always asked myself, what is the essence that makes their music special?
What is what makes them to be one of the most original and influental bands of their era?
Why can you just walk the sidewalk with your earphones on and feel like the super hype non conform surfin guy?
Here are the words that came to my mind after seeing this DVD:
exciting, emotional, dedicated, atmospheric, intense, epical, lyrics keep up with music and I would dare to say they are one of the MOST KILLING LIVE ACTS of all time.
If you ever seen any of their concert photos or clips you know Jane's were always a LOT into the presentation on stage, this DVD is from the 1997 reunion era with Flea on bass and it's a mixture of misscelaneous shots, interviews and contains about 40 minutes of original live music, with killing takes of songs such as "Ocean Size" "Mountain song" "Three Days" "Jane Says" or "Summertime rolls".
Of course all backed with exotic and sexy chicks, strippers, dancers, transvestites and a very intense dress code.
This DVD, even kind of chaotically edited, is still a must see for the fans, kind of reminded me on the "Funky Monks" from Red Hot Chilli Peppers in its style..
Here is actually one of the songs featured on the DVD - "Three Days":
