NY Times Square closed over blast

US police have cordoned off a section of New York City's Times Square to investigate what witnesses say was a small explosion.
Cars and police tape blocked vehicles from entering the area.
The explosion appeared to have taken place near a military recruiting station in the square in central Manhattan, reports say.
Members of the police department's bomb squad and fire department officials were at the scene.
