People are blocking pop-ups because they are fantastically annoying. If you force them on people who have *paid* to opt out of that kind of crap, it won't make you any money.

If you can't adapt, get out. If your business cannot work, without forcing pop-ups on people, then your product must really suck. Sorry to be so blunt, but there it is.

TV has commercials. However, you aren't paying for most TV in other ways... Like a monthly fee for that channel. A complete cable package costs less per month than most adult websites. Network telivision is funded by sponsors, and people know that. Paysites are funded by signups.

I run paysites. I have a small exit popup on my sites. It accounts for a tiny percentage of my revenue... like, $25 a week... and a little of the flow of traffic between my sites. If customers want to turn that popup off, I say more power to them.

What it comes down to, for me, is not to piss off the people who pay my bills. I can see allowing for some annoyance to boost sales, that makes a little sense. However, if people are really so rabid about killing popups that they are choosing browsers, ISPs, etc. based on getting a blocker, then clearly it isn't good business to use them.
