It might be prudent to start educating yourself on that which you display lack of education on now and then.

For a broader courses of study:

"Sophie's World" is excellent to anyone wanting to grasp the nuances of Western Philosophy... presented in a fictional format, but the subject-matter is non-fiction... anything fictional in the book serves as analogy to the philosophical lessons learned in Western Philosophy in sequential time.

Any 'history of the world' kinda book would be something you might wanna consider reading and committing to memory. I have a couple decent ones in my library... but the only title that sticks out in my mind is "From Dawn to Decadence"... fantastic book, but that might be a little too involved.... and it only relates from the Renaissance to present - and (assuming you're really interested in expanding yourself, as you suggest) your brain probably thirsts for bit of ancient-medieval history, too.... so I'd go for one of those 'history of the world' books that's something like 200 pages long with pictures for bathroom reading.

For a specific topic:

Origins and Development of the Second Amendment, by David Hardy. Copyright 1986. Blacksmith Corporation. Hardback. 95 pages.

You can pick up a copy for as little as $3 through Amazon's sellers. I haven't read it, but it's reviews say it's concise and to-the-point, and discusses historical and philosophical issues involved with the topic of gun rights... I find that reading opposition views is generally a good idea as it will either voluntarily change your open mind, or prompt you to understand your own point of view more deeply. And 95 pages is nothing.

Then maybe go back to a bit broader, and read "The Republic," by Plato.

If you can read all that, and commit most of it to memory, you might come across more like you have an actual clue as to what you're talking about as opposed to those times you don't.
