Take a new tape cartridge apart and if the spools from the chewed one aren't usable, you'll have to wind the old tape onto the spools from the one you take apart... Use NEW cotton gloves to handle the tape.

I'd not be sure if the dawg demagnitized the content tape. But you'll find out soon enough. Just don't wind it too tightly... and run it thru the vcr front to back several times to allow the deck to set the tensions. The hubby has fixed a few of ours that way.
