Agreed he's a little young to be starting shooting and his dad should have eye protection on him, but teaching kids while they are young is the best way to make sure they are responsible with guns. Regardless of your beliefs on guns, the fact is that they are available in the US and if your kid doesn't know what to do if he's confronted by a friend with his parents gun, your kid needs to know what to do.
I'll argue until I die, taking something away from a kid and telling him he can't have it isn't the way to make sure he won't mess around with them. If anything it creates curiosity, which never turns out good.
