I would imagine almost all of those black people are located within a few square miles in North Portland. I would guess most of the people in my state have zero exposure to black people. I didn't have a meaningful conversation with a black person until I was 21 years old. Not because of racism, just because there are not a lot of black people around and I didn't go to the same places as they did.

I grew up in Vancouver and my high school was about the same way. I just had no idea there was such a gap in population breakdown.
