If you are new at the internet it's prob safer to use firefox, if you are fairly capable you will likely use both as they both have unique features, if you are an "advanced user" you will likely use firefox primarily and ie as a secondary browser ( because firefox is easier to tweak ) , if you are an expert you are likely back to ie as master and firefox as secondary.
I currently use IE as primary and Firefox as secondary. I definatly with my own pages view both, but I agree with you, most people are going to use what comes with their computer IE, and we could go further than that, the more advanced a user of the net gets, the more likely they are to find tubes and rapidshare, so the more likely they are to not be paying customers.
