That would be because it is based more on Frank Millers Dark Knight graphic novels and not one of the many other batman comics. There are numerous batman comic titles by the way.
When someone mentioned the whole superman vs batman problem, again that was done in the Dark knight graphic novel format and not in the happy go lucky world of the superman comic book or justice league America. So once again it could be a perfect fit.
Ideally it is key that he does not kill off to many of the assorted villains as that is key to helping him drive himself partially insane, specially when they break out of the asylum. Or as another example when his sidekick Robin gets his ass broken and killed. I feel it is essential that they allow us the viewers to peer into his mind and watch it slowly crumble into madness like it always did in those graphic novels and even some of the comic books themselves. (some were more toony, some more like superman, others more serious and sinister which got amped even more with dark knight)
