ismokeblunts: I manage downward facing dog no problem. It's hard to hold it, but I don't feel it in my hips really. The one I had trouble with was somethingorother eagle where you have to balance on one foot while you have your other leg wrapped around that leg. Hard to describe, hard to do.

The balance postures are hard to do if you are trying too hard ... the best summary I heard of Yoga is 'The first posture is the breath, every other posture extends from that' .... the trick that helps get there is using a focus point in the ground in front of you and starting a slow, shallow breathing rhythm. Find balance on 1 foot first by focusing on a spot on the floor in front of you and practice holding it for up to 20 breaths ... then add the twisted legs and twisted arms bit.
I've done a few types of yoga but benefited most from Yoga In Daily Life's system (
http://www.yogaindailylife.org) ... they follow the Hatha Yoga principal of holding postures and breathing into them. Its more about meditating and adding some movement than exercising ...
I love love love love love it and am always dragging my friends along for classes ... in a way it saved my life, not just physically for healing but mentally its fabulous for handling stress.
I'm surprised there's never been a yoga porn site ....
