So at its widest point, it's just over 1/4 of an inch thinner. It's also 2 lbs lighter. That is pretty insignificant in terms of portability.

2 lbs lighter is almost half the weight. That is significant.
And you can argue it until you're blue in the face. That size difference matters to people and it will sell because of it. And it'll have very little to do with the rest of it's specs. People who are quite computer savvy will still buy it simply for it's size, no matter how much it pisses you off.
