I say again, horsepower is always a function of fuel and air.
In order to make X amount of power, you need at a min. y amount of air and z amount of fuel. There's no way around that.
So a 4.0 litre engine making 200 horsepower versus a 2.0 litre engine making 200 horsepower is going to use more or less the same amount of fuel. Engine effeciency is not all that different between Europe and the USA.
Christ in 1990 Chevy was putting out 2.3 litre quad valve engines making 180 horsepower and yet you think Europe is so much more advanced in engine design?
