There has never been a US commercial flight shot down on U.S. soil. I would feel safer having that money go toward better mechanics and other safety procedures such as re-inforced cockpit doors. Better air traffic control systems. Or better yet, hire more pilots so that we don't have guys flying 60 hours a week and suffering from exhaustion.
