the general rule about asian mfr:
Tier 1 - Japanese (highest quality, generally more expensive)
Tier 2 - S. Korean (Samsung, LG (BTW these two are the largest mfr's of the raw screens in the world. almost everyone but the japanese use samsung and lg product).
Tier 3 - crap from taiwan and china.
I went rear-projection Mitsubishi but I have the space for it. I still here negative reports about lifetime of lcds and plasmas. And, you can save a lot of money for better specs, bigger screen size with rear-projection vs. flat panel.
