You can be in default status for all kinds of reasons. Filling late, when you are in corporation restructure, tax re-negotiations, simple not paying the corporation fees, etc. It has nothing to do with running an illegal business.
Why don't you Google "DBA" in another state. I have 5 corporations in Nevada and a holding corporation in Delaware and I do business in California with multiple "DBA"s. Do you know why??? No you don't!!! SO DONT MAKE FUCKING STATEMENTS ON THINGS YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND!!
