personal income taxes are about 30%-35% of federal revenue... but its a little insane to make the promise that he's going to do it on day one of being in office.
personally, i would prefer to know there was a well thought out plan other than "i'm a strict constitutionalist" and fuck everyone else and fuck the consequences. this is what his supporters don't get. its not the "idea" thats flawed.. its his delivery of those ideas and his general attitude thats flawed.

His reply doesn't matter.. It will not change until drastic action is takin. Congress has too much power invested in the federal tax code. That's 435 people on different pages that you need to get on one page.
Aside from congress' controlling powers - Income tax compliance is a multi billion dollar a year operation. With a flat tax, or anything simple, thousands upon thousands of tax preparation personnel will be unemployed and have no other viable skills. This is not going to happen.
