The Canadian company should be sending you what's known as par crossing checks, not the standard checks that are issued in Canada. The par crossing checks will route to the Canadian bank account but encodes the checks using the US banking routing codes. Using a par crossing check is just as though your cashing a US check and should go instantly. Its not really your banks fault here, its the Canadian company that should be sending you a different type of check.
