A few years ago we were in a fucking horrible place financially, were being evicted because my husband had lost his job, yadda yadda yadda...so my landlord calls while I'm on the line with a local charity who helps people with housing costs. It's perfectly clear that the message service is a voicemail, because it says"You have reached the VOICEMAIL of __________, please leave a message."
So what does my dumbass landlord do? He proceeds to leave me a screaming, furious, nearly incoherent message along the lines of "Pick up the fucking phone, bitch! I know you're listening to this! Pick up the fucking phone or I swear to god I'm going to kill you! I'm calling the sherrif's office right now to boot your ass out of that house, c|_|nt! Pick up the phone!"
I listened to it, called the sherrif's office myself, and explained the situation. I was told that the county sherriffs can't get involved in an eviction w/out a court order, and to keep a copy of that message if I needed to file harrassment charges. I relayed all this to my landlord the next time he called, and he was sweet as pie from then on. I never had another problem with him.
