I agree with you for the most part...I play guitar, but I would never whip it out at a party and start playing. That's just me, I don't like to draw attention to myself -- although, it has gotten me laid once(and I don't even play that well).
But I love a good impromptu guitar jam seesion at a party when the guy knows how to rock like Tenacious D and doesn't play some gay hippie bullshit , or the Shins.
