I think, like most things regarding knowledge, it depends on individuals, and how they use the knowledge gained.
As was told to Socrates by the Oracle at Delphi, "Wisest is he who knows he does not know."
I think the dangers come when people assume that their little bit of knowledge takes them a lot further than it actually does - whether you're talking about knowledge derived from a religious text, or from the scientific method.
