Not anymore, Since the break of the Soviet Union Russia has not been able to pull a stellar performance since 1992 Albertville and 1993 WC and finals in Nagano in 98, beaten by Czech Rep.
It's 14 years since Russia has not been gold on any senior tournament / no matter if with all NHL players or without / no matter if world championships / Canadian Cup / or Olympic games - and is a shade of its former fame.
Comparing the olympic gold medals of Sweden from 1994 and 2006 with Czech in 1998 and Canadian in 2002 would actually show a very leveled up situation in the current international hockey, there is no dominant country in the senior hockey, with Russia notably fading away.
Those are just facts that can't be questioned.
