"RewriteEngine Off" should do the trick. Are you absolutely sure there's
not a typo in your link somewhere? I didn't fully read every post, but I
saw you mentioned something about 404, meaning the URL you're
trying to access does not exist. Rename all .htaccess files and make sure
the page will load. If it gives you a 404, the URL is wrong.
Once the URL is correct, the Wordpress .htaccess actually won't matter at all
anyway. The .htaccess you posted from wordpress just says that if the URL
is neither a file nor a directory, meaning it's 404, then load index.php.
If you'd like to email use full details - the site name, wordpress and members'
area URLs, and FTP info, ALi or myself will take care of this for you, though
it may take a copuple of days since we're taking a Christmas break.
