So, I do have some experience in this field. The fact that you all seem to think that unless it's a big boy gun it's garbage shows you are exactly the kind of people that would make my day when they walked into the shop I worked at. You are the guy the buys whatever the gun magazine says is the best gun to buy, get the big caliber to make you feel warmer at night and all the gear that was pictured with it in the magazine. I could just hear the commission check getting bigger.
The fact is that there is no right and wrong when it comes to self defense, you do what works for you. If you can't comfortably double tap a .40 or a .45, then you shouldn't carry one. Same if you can't comfortably double tap a 9 mil., you shouldn't carry one. .22's are just as deadly as any other round on the market, in fact .22 kill a ton of people every year. Saying that you might as well carry nothing instead of a .22 is just ignorant.

I too once owned a glock 23 and myself never had any issues with it.... shot fine... I have personally seen many glocks explode.
as far as jamming I am one of those instructors that will always blame jams on shooting limp wristed which if you instructed you know 99% of jams are caused by shooting limp wristed. or using re load ammo....
Glock is still shit though... and it's not hard to get a glock cert.. I have one to... my friend owns glockmeister.com we go back and forth all the time..
like you said the bottom line at the end of the day is what do you feel good with.... I know a girl that loves nothing more than a 357sig in her purse with a fuckiing 6 inch barrel on it... bit over kill if you ask me but if thats what she is most comfy with thats what will work... and yeah a 22 will work... so will a stone.... but a bomb works better gets the job done quicker.... we can go back and forth all day long on this.. were both instructors we both have different views because we were both trained different... I don't know your training personally but I know mine and what ive seen different ammo do in real world situations... I know personally I would not carry something smaller than a 40 to stop a grown human being... now I said stop... just cause you swiss cheese someone with a 22 and they die later in the hospital does not mean it did it's job... you need a round with stopping power..
if you think that all rounds are the same then why did the FBI in 1986 after a little shoot out in florida go to the 40?
this is the FBI were talking about.. they have all the money int he world for testing right?
then read about the strausburg goat test... bottom line is shot placement can play a vital role in all gun fights but ammo will also play a bigger roll than shot placement...
I mean think about it...
if your an instructor im assuming your nra certified at at least marksman maybe like me with distinguished expert so in our hands a 22 will be deadly... maybe even first shot if I can sight that little triangle in the forehead.. but to the avg citizen that only shoots maybe once a year... they need stopping power... yes a 22 is better than nothing but also.. be a shitty day to get your 22 taken from you after you just unloaded a mag into the bad guy then he beats you with your own gun....
my wife was the same way... she wanted to carry this 380 I got.. I said NO you will carry the 40 or nothing... now she shoots the 40 both left and right handed with a 94%....

don't have to list guns or anything on it.
i love my home state.

thats bad... so you did not have to prove your smart enough to operate a gun before they gave it to you?

I think it should be an involved process of educating people on all aspects of self defense before the permit is issued. There's a lot more to carrying a gun than shooting at a piece of paper in a controlled environment and getting 8 hours of instruction.

yeah we require you to shoot every weapon you want to list on your ccw... I know some states will let you shoot one gun then list em all... so people take in a 22 or 38 then pass wth that then list every 44 mag they own....
ive always said that with owning a gun you should have to shoot it at least 1 time a month...
myself I shoot at least 3000 rds a month.... thats personal not even for working....
