and there's another thing: on his crappy tour there is a link to purchase a clips CD instead of membership which I believe a lot of the traffic I'm sending is choosing instead of the membership and I don't get credit for this CD.
so by linking directly to the join page I bypass that CD.

As long as the sponsor gives you permission to do so it's fine.
Example: We run
www.clubkiraeggers.com. It's in english. She's the most popular model in Denmark. So now we have bunch of affiliates who created Danish tours with our content. It works great!
