Many people are naturally prone to disaster-syndrome.

I've seen people prior to hurricanes here buy up 25 extra sets of tire irons and shit like that before a storm. No idea why.

Seems to be a mentality which says, "I better clean out my bank account and buy EVERYTHING in site. After all, someone before me bought all the hamburger buns and I may need to barter a tire iron if the authorities don't get this shit put back together before we all die."
