I have a website, full of text and pictures etc.

I however want to move it over to another website under a subdirectory path.

Now if I copy it straight off, I know I will get caught out by the duplicate content rule, now say I delete the first website I copied it off.

Is there a time frame I should leave before adding the files to its new home?

Does anybody have any experience in what occurs please?
