Some of my favorites I know for a fucking fact would be banned today.
Anyone remember those red plastic rockets with the red and white pumps to pressurize them?
Point was that you were to attach a very flimsy cord to your rocket that was partially filled with water. You then would proceed to pump up your rocket at the super safe distance of maybe 12 inches away. When it reached the proper pressure which was gauged by experience and guesstimating you would then let it off to fly into the sky. Lets not forget usually you would be standing damn close and if you did not learn quick often nearly right over this overpressurized sharp ended plastic missile of death.
I also was a fan of hot wheels and the tracks. Well I sometimes hated those damn fucking tracks just like I hated those paddles with the string and ball attached, cause they both could be used as toys or mass ass destruction when you pissed your parents off and they could not find the belt you had previously hid cause you knew there was no way you could hide the fact that the full body mirror in the hallways was now 2 trillion barbie doll sized hand mirrors.
Oddly I was also very fond of my yo-yo. Yup just a standard old fashion yo-yo. Carried it everywhere.
Had plenty of Lego's but I discovered erector sets and my mind was blown, they had engines. Only problem was my family was poor, well not bad poor but poor enough that I had to be segregated at school and forced into public humiliation to collect my free lunch cards.
Lincoln logs were some of my favorites. Yes simple and easy to deal with. Kicker was my great grandfather thought they were brilliant as he spent his life as a carpenter after serving his time in the military and wanting to be as far away from killing people as he could be. So he hooked me up with a whole bunch of custom extensions and stuff for my evergrowing Lincoln log collection. This was the one area that my friends were actually in envy of.
Latter of course my parents found a way to get me an Atari. I played that bitch so much that I swear I went through a few joy sticks. Asteroids was my game of choice for a long time. Loved trying to flip the score. Finally when I did it I was almost done with the game except I had one missing element, I was alone. So I collected some friends and flipped it again. After that asteroids just was no longer that interesting.
