-----------
Officials are investigating a YouTube.com video that appears to show an unknown man driving a Lamborghini Murcielago about 219 mph on Loop 202.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Harold Sanders would not comment on the video, which he called an "alleged extreme violation of the posted speed limit," in a statement to the media.

The video shows the gold car making three attempts to beat what a narrator calls the car?s former top speed of 171 mph. In the first run, the engine roars, but only reaches 211 mph.

The Lamborghini then takes a rest and goes for another race, but is apparently slowed down by another driver.

"Could?ve gone even more if it wasn?t for this car in front of us," a voice says.

Based on passing signs in the background, it appears the car is traveling in east Mesa near Ellsworth Road on the Santan stretch of Loop 202.

Ros De Giaxa, sales manager at Motorsports of Scottsdale, the only licensed Lamborghini dealership in the state, said the manufacturer of the car lists its top speed at 205 mph, but it?s quite possible the car could travel faster.

"They are built for speed," De Giaxa said. "They have all-wheel drive, 12 cylinders, 640 horsepower ... which is more than a Ferrari."

De Giaxa said there are about 350 Lamborghinis in Arizona, with more being purchased every day. He said Motorsports of Scottsdale is Arizona's only authorized service center for the car.

He said Lamborghini technicians have equipment that can show how fast the car has been driven.

"Everyone who has a warranty has to come to us," he added.

De Giaxa confirmed he had watched the video, but declined to comment if he knows who owns the car, citing a customer privacy protection policy.

The video doesn?t show the drivers? face, and only his voice can be heard at the end of the video when he introduces himself and challenges someone to beat his alleged record speed.
