The logic behind it is simple - if you would ever choose five times cheaper solution if the cheaper one is 95 pct. succesfull and the super expensive one 96 pct. succesfull, will you be able to justify that?

Also many medicaments are in fact duplicated classic meds just different name and package and price 200 - 500 pct. up.
Spot on man

Only familiar with the health insurance industry in the US via friends who got scammed (legally) for crazy insurance premiums. Another example, tho can't remember the actual prices - we had air ambulance cover (handy at the time when we were on a Caribbean island). The rates were something like $900/year for air ambulance to almost anywhere, but when the flight was destined for the US, the price shot up to just under $4000. It was actually cheaper flying across the Atlantic to the EU or to Canada than landing in the US.

Another example is... whatever it's called - stuff used as eyewash. It costs around $50 for a gallon of the core ingredient, but when this is sold via pharma corps, that $50 shows a return on retail sales of around $2.7million - crazy!! OK... you have to allow packaging/distribution and retailers profit in that, but doubt the pharma corps will go bust at that level of profit
