The military has always had a higher suicide rate than civilians...during peace time as well as times of war. It is related more to Dear John type situations than anything else. When the cat is away the mouse will play plus stress changes a persons personality and sometimes for the worse thus their spouses/girlfriends can't adjust to the changed personality and want a separation. The divorce rate is also higher for military personel during peace time as well as times of war. Really nothing new here.
Another point that many civilians are not aware of is the fact that there have been more military deaths in years of peacetime among active duty personel than have been lost per year in Iraq...due to multiple causes.
